Counsel - Regulatory

The incumbent will have to ensure adherence to applicable regulations and standards by setting the policies which cover Airmesh's regulatory requirements, mitigate conduct and reputational risk issues. Work closely with Legal Director and the legal team on regulatory, policy and other legal issues.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Planning and managing regulatory submissions in compliance with corporate standards and local regulatory requirements
  • Dealing with TRAI, DoT, WPC, SACFA, TERM cell, CCA and other concerned bodies / authorities to ensure proper compliance with the license conditions & other related matters
  • Dealing with TERM cell of DoT for Subscriber Verification audits on monthly basis
  • Dealing with DoT and Vigilance Department to keep check on illegal usage of telephony
  • Filing of monthly and quarterly reports to the statutory agencies including DoT, TRAI etc.
  • Assisting in Documentation of Customer acquisition in compliance with TRAI & DoT directives
  • Handling monthly and quarterly Regulatory Compliance such as Bulk Connections, CLIR, Foreign National, Lawful Interception, Subscriber Verification etc.
  • Handling advisory and litigation assignments and ensuring a successful outcome in any litigation of regulatory decisions
  • Handling Fraud Management System (FMS)
  • Drafting and vetting of interconnect agreements
  • Licensing with the local bodies & helping in getting different required clearances
  • Liaison with relevant stakeholders within Airmesh in India and Globally 
  • Helping to set and implement a strategy for the Regulatory function
  • Analysis of different regulations and their impact on the Telecom industry & minimizing adverse financial and operational impact of regulations and government policies on Airmesh
  • Interacting and building relationship with regulators and industry bodies in India on Regulatory Compliance matters relating to Airmesh
  • Achieving changes in regulation consistent with our commercial strategies

Desired Candidate Profile:

  • Bachelor's of Law, comparable law degree with 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Licensed to practice law in India
  • Substantive knowledge and expertise in regulatory matters
  • Should have handled advisory, regulatory and litigation, due diligence, compliance review & drafting
  • Strong intellectual / analytical ability coupled with good commercial acumen
  • Must be comfortable working in a standalone environment initially and possess an ability to work long hours
  • Ability to advocate a case convincingly in words and writing to an external audience
  • Ability to explain complex regulatory issues risk and opportunities to a non-technical audience
  • Open minded and flexible.  Willing to listen to other’s opinion/views but also decisive when reputational risks prevail over business opportunities.  
  • Able to display authority in a professional environment both within and outside Airmesh
  • Able to act as a trusted sparring partner to senior executive management
  • Displays true commercial awareness; quickly grasps critical business issues. Is able to formulate effective strategies to support business needs within competitive environment
  • While a thorough understanding of telecom sector and experience is an advantage, experience of working with regulators in other sectors would also be very valuable
